The Ary Jan Gallery has been established more than fifteen years ago by Mathias Ary Jan. Specialised in painting from the end of the 19th century and the begining of the 20th century, he exposes for the first time at Masterpiece Fair this year. For this event, the gallery reveals several important paintings bought from private collections and for many of them exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in the late 19th century.
True to his speciality, it shows a fine selection of Belle Epoque and Orientalist paintings, particularly a large painting by Jan Baptist Huysmans « The presentation of the bride to the Court of Syria in Damascus ». This painting conserved by the painter in his private collection and stayed by descent in the same family for many years. Realised in 1860, it shows through many details the memory of Huysmans journeys in Damascus, where the artist stayed for the second time in 1858. This city was one of the most impressive one for the belgian orientalist artist.
About fifteen orientalist paintings and ten Belle Epoque paintings will be exposed by the Galerie Ary Jan on Stand B10.
