Description of the artwork

We find in this composition all the instinct of the painter in his way to approach the landscape. Through the use of powerful horizontal flat tints, he emphasizes the reflections of light in the river, creating an intense dynamic in the foreground. Further on, the receding lines of the houses with their light-colored facades take shape under a changing sky, mixing the warm and cold tones typical of Vlaminck's palette.

Coming from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Hinglaise, this painting was presented in their private mansion, allée Borghèse in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Entirely decorated by Madeleine Castaing, the place served as a showcase for the remarkable collection of the Hinglaise couple.
