Description of the artwork

Built in 1465, the Blue Mosque of Tabriz was damaged during an earthquake in 1780. Covered with blue and green Iznik mosaics, the imposing entrance gate stands in front of the spectacular ruins. The snow that covers the landscape magnifies the architecture of the ancient mosque.
Jules Laurens used this composition to create his painting in 1872, which is currently housed in the Fabre Museum in Montpellier.
