Galerie Ary Jan : Presentation

Located in the heart of the 8th district in Paris, the Galerie Ary Jan is specialized in French and European painting of the late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th as well. It focused particularly on Belle Epoque and Orientalism. Through a very rigorous choice, the Galerie Ary Jan is now one of the best European galleries for these artistic movements.

Between the two centuries, many new art movements had appeared, of whom the Impressionism that now a days strongly eclipse the academic painting of that time.

The gallery distinguished itself by exhibiting these neglected artists and desires them to be known by all.

The Galerie Ary Jan uses to exhibit in many international fairs, and particularly in the Biennale des Antiquaires since 2012 and Brafa Art Fair since 2010. By its precise and rigorous choice of the presented paintings, the Galerie Ary Jan has succeed in persuading press and public about the wonderful quality of academic works at the end of the 19th century.

 

 

Mathias ARY JAN

Grand-son and son of architect, Mathias Ary Jan is a self-taught man who has always been passionate by art and also has a soul of a collector. He opened his first showroom in 1997 and quickly specialized in 19th European painting before opening his first gallery in the Louvre des Antiquaires in 2000. After 6 years there, he left for a gallery located 38 rue de Penthièvre in the 8th and choose to exhibit here Orientalist and Belle Epoque painting. In 2018 he moved to a larger place and opened his new gallery on the 32 avenue Marceau.

Mathias Ary Jan is a member of the Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA). In November 2016, he has been elected President of this trade union after two mandates as treasurer. Always concerned to make his job with integrity, he is also a member of the Compagnie Nationale des Experts (CNE) and the Royal Chamber of Art Dealers (ROCAD).

Simultaneously to his art dealer activity, Mathias Ary Jan has developed his expertise. From the creation of the Association Felix Ziem in 2009, he is, with his colleague David Pluskwa, expert of the eponymous painter. He organized many exhibitions around the artist and actively worked to prepare the large exhibition located in Marseille at the Palace of Arts in 2011, to celebrate one century of Ziem’s death.

From her experience as a painting restorer, an artistic profession she practiced near a lot of art dealers and collectors, Catherine Ary Jan has kept a high level of requirement regarding the state condition of every paintings exhibited in the gallery. From more that 15 years, she works with her husband and especially takes care of placing paintings during Fairs, exhibitions in the Galerie and the writing of catalogs regularly published.
