A self-taught art enthusiast, Mathias Ary Jan founded his first gallery in 1997. After the Louvre des Antiquaires and Rue de Penthièvre, the Ary Jan Gallery is now located at 32 Avenue Marceau, where works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are exhibited. Among the many artistic movements that flourished during this pivotal period in art history, the Ary Jan Gallery specialises in Orientalism, the Belle Époque, Symbolism and Post-Impressionism.
It has been exhibiting for nearly fifteen years at BRAFA, as well as at the Biennale des Antiquaires and the Salon du Dessin. Since 2025, it has also been present at TEFAF in Maastricht.
Mathias Ary Jan is president of the Syndicat des Négociants en Art (SNA) and a recognised expert on the painter Felix Ziem, for whom he created the association in 2009. He is also the author of the reference book on Orientalist painting: ‘Rêver l'Orient’ (Oriental Dream), published by Norma in 2022. Committed to practising his profession with integrity, he is also a member of the National Company of Experts (CNE) and the Royal Chamber of Antique Dealers of Belgium (ROCAD).
