Geneviève Claisse was born in Quiévy in 1935. Her vocation was born when she read the magazine "Art d'aujourd'hui", a tribune of geometric abstraction.
In 1958, she joined the ideas of the « Abstraction Creation » movement created by Herbin. In 1960, her contribution to the Salon of May showed an organization of space rich in forms and subtle colors. In 1961, she organized her first exhibition at the Denise René gallery in Paris, where she exhibited regularly.
It was in 1964 that appeared the theme of the circles, developed with innumerable potentialities without modifying the graphic design. Shortly before the theme Circles, appeared other simple forms : the triangles.
In the years 1965, she focused more on the color. It was during these years that Geneviève Claisse standed out from the influence of Auguste Herbin and Mondrian. She focused on the purification of her works, always and inevitably geometric, both in terms of form and choice of colors.
In 1967, the Museum of Fine Arts La Chaux-de-Fond exhibited her works of the past ten years. Other important exhibitions, over time, showed her work (Oslo, Alençon, Lille, etc). In 1989, a retrospective of her work was organized at the Matisse museum in Cateau-Cambresis.
