Description of the artwork

The luminous fountains created for the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris offered to the visitors a colorful and fairy-like show very appreciated at dusk. Massed in front of the Coutan fountain, an enthusiastic crowd was thrilled by the show.
Internally illuminated, three hundred water jets become incandescent. They projected themselves in sprays of fire, fell down in a shower of sparks, then suddenly the decor changed: from golden yellow, it became red, green or blue, then these various colors were transformed, melting one into the other, going from ruby and emerald to the most delicate opal shades.

The luminous fountain will be one of the unforgettable enchantments of the Exhibition.
