Description of the artwork
Alexandre Bida's drawings were often engraved by other artists, notably Jules Laurens. This model is found seated in exactly the same position in a larger composition engraved by Laurens and published in “Voyage en Turquie et en Perse (1854-1860)”. This plate depicts portraits of Turks and Greeks from Roumelia (the western coast of the Black Sea).
