Description of the artwork

This work can be compared with Baschet's pastel portraits of Arlette Warrain, done from the front and in profile, now in the Musée d'Orsay. Our work can be dated to around 1920. The young woman married Mr. Ryan. In addition to Marcel Baschet, she was also portrayed by Paul César Helleu.
Born in 1892, Arlette was one of four daughters of Francis Warrain, son of Marseille shipowner Alexandre Warrain, and Madame Roux. He was a painter, sculptor, philosopher and mathematician, and shared a long friendship with Marcel Baschet.
