Description of the artwork

This drawing is a preparatory study for a painting by Robert de Montesquiou produced in 1905 and presented at the Galerie Charpentier in Paris in 1931 during the exhibition devoted to the painter. A man of letters, poet and dandy, Montesquiou is a key figure, forever associated with the work of Marcel Proust and the great portrait painters of the early 20th century.
