The galery Ary Jan is delighted to loan 7 artworks, paintings and drawings, by Françoise Gilot to the Artipelag Museum for their exhibition dedicated to Picasso and his muses.

Throughout his career, Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) had many different kinds of relationships with women: wives, lovers and friends. They inspired and challenged him in a creative search for new approaches, in literature, theatre, philosophy, dance, photography, ceramics and various forms of painting. This exhibition presents eight women artists who have had a powerful influence on Picasso’s life and work. In our presentation, we are calling them muses, a term from Greek mythology. In ancient Greco-Roman culture, muses were not only patrons of the arts but also engendered creative inspiration together with others.
