Description of the artwork

Also known as “La Femme en rose”, this elegant young woman is Nathalie, the painter's sister. With a virtuoso, sensitive touch, the painter captures a whole range of materials to enhance his model's toilette: taffeta, lace, fan, jewelry and hat. Each fabric is perfectly captured, the silhouette standing out against a window embrasure draped with flowery curtains.
The painter presented this canvas at the 1878 Salon, along with another composition, “La Noce débarque”. Goeneutte had just settled a hundred meters from the Nouvelle Athènes, where he frequented artists such as Cézanne, Renoir, Pissarro, Manet and Boudin.
