"Belle Époque. - The Best Years of European Civilization (1870-1900)" to be held at Palazzo Blu in Pisa from October 14, 2025, to April 7, 2026
Considered one of the most fashionable portraitists of his time, Raymondo de Madrazo was technically worthy of his father's tradition. His style, both realistic and meticulous, was the key to his success with the bourgeois clientele of the time. The painter was particularly adept at rendering drapery, and did not hesitate to make it a key element of his compositions.
In our portrait, he accentuates the freshness of his model's milky skin by having her pose with her hair down, subtly held back by a ravishing pink satin ribbon. With flowers in hand, she has the absent gaze of a young lover, whose thoughts are entirely absorbed by her budding love.
