Luminous fountain of the 1889 World's Fair

The ARY JAN Gallery is pleased to announce the loan of Ernest Ange Duez's painting, Illuminated Fountain at the 1889 World's Fair, to the Musée des Franciscaines in Deauville, as part of the exhibition 'Seen from Behind, a Figure without a Portrait', on display from 28 February to 31 May 2026.

This unique exhibition offers an ambitious exploration of the motif of the figure seen from behind in the history of Western art, from the Middle Ages to contemporary creation. Through more than a hundred works from major public and private collections, the exhibition highlights the expressive and symbolic richness of this singular posture.

We are particularly proud to see this work by Ernest Ange Duez join this artistic and scientific dialogue and contribute to this project led by the Franciscaines with the exceptional support of the Musée d'Orsay.
