Description of the artwork

This group of ‘Geese of Sarlat’ was designed by the sculptor to pay tribute to the history of the town of Sarlat-la-Canéda and its culinary heritage. A major sponsorship initiative was launched in the early 1990s between the Rougié company, the town hall and F.X. Lalanne to adorn the market square with a powerful and emblematic work of art, which would be integrated into the redevelopment of the town centre.
The gem of the Périgord Noir was, in fact, the first town to be covered by the Malraux law for the preservation of heritage. Over the years, the enhancement of the squares and streets of the old town reached its peak with the installation of Lalanne's work.
After several projects, a group of three beautiful life-size fat geese was finally chosen for the market square. They are depicted in a curious pose, their necks stretched out towards visitors.
